Global Warming Comedy Sizzles

13 Nov

The West Stage at the Raven Theater Complex is currently showing Sizzle: A Global Warming Comedy.

Adapted from a documentary of the same name by Dr. Randy Olson, Sizzle is about the credibility crisis currently consuming science in America. “It’s about the hilarious (and not-so-hilarious) ways we behave when unable to bring others to our point of view,” the official description explains.

The play will be performed every weekend through November 13, 2011. Shows on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays start at 8:30pm. Sunday matinees start at 3:30pm.

GLP Looks for Student Filmmakers

8 Oct

Green Living Project has announced their fall contest for student filmmakers.

Open to high school, undergraduate, and graduate students, the contest is looking to spotlight filmmakers who focus on sustainability and positive storytelling.

Films can tackle any environmental issue, but must run less than five minutes. Last year’s winning entry was submitted by Sam de-Castro Abeger, a University of California, Santa Barbara student who focused on the surfing industry’s sustainability efforts in Dirty Little Secret.

Submissions are due on November 15. The winning student will receive a prize package and have their film screened at GLP’s 3rd Annual Los Angeles Premiere in December.

More details are available on the Green Living Project website.

Don't miss next week's screening on campus!

Forks Over Knives is a brand new documentary about the affect food has on our health. Exploring the claim that a diet of animal-based and processed foods are responsible for the sky-rocketing rates of obesity, heart disease, and strokes in this country, the movie features interviews with leading researchers.

Though the film won’t be released in theaters until mid March, a special benefit screening will be hosted on campus next Thursday.  A reception featuring vegan refreshments will begin at 5:30PM, with the screening itself starting at 7PM. After the film, guests are invited to stick around for a panel discussion (8:30-9:15PM).

Tickets can be reserved online for a $10 donation, with all proceeds going to Mercy for Animals and Mindful Citizen. Seats are going fast so make sure to RSVP soon!

More information about the film can be found on the official website.
